Hike to Viševnik (2050 m)

Viševnik (2050 m) is one of the most accessible two-thousanders in the Julian Alps, making it a very popular destination for mountaineers. It is a relatively easy and clearly marked hike, also suitable for families with children and more enduring four-legged companions (you need to overcome about 703 m of altitude difference to reach the summit). From the top of Viševnik, you can enjoy a wonderful view, including of the nearby Triglav and many surrounding peaks. Due to its proximity to Bled and the beautiful panorama, Viševnik is a great idea for a day trip for guests of BB Deluxe Apartments Bled and other visitors to the Bled area.

Starting point and access from Bled

The starting point of the trail to Viševnik is at Rudne Polje on the Pokljuka plateau, near the military barracks and the biathlon centre (altitude of the starting point ~ 1347 m). From Bled (i.e. from BB Deluxe Apartments Bled), it is about 20 km to Rudne Polje, which is less than a 30-minute drive by car. In summer, you can also reach the starting point by public transport - in July and August, the Bled Bus on the Pokljuka line runs twice a day (early morning and late afternoon) directly to Rudny Pole.

The journey takes about 50 minutes. Outside the summer season, direct bus connections to Pokljuka are less frequent; in this case, you can reach Bled or Bohinj and from there to Rudni Polje by local transport or taxi. There is a car park (daily parking fee applies) at Rudne Polje, from where the marked mountain trail starts.

Description of the route to Viševnik

The shortest and most used route to Viševnik from Rudno polje is easy and well signposted, and will take about 2 hours of moderate walking. The trail initially follows a wide path along the edge of the forest, and then a footpath with signs for Viševnik and Triglav branches off to the right. It soon starts to climb steeply along a ski slope (in summer there are cattle grazing here), through the forest and then along a grassy slope.

After about an hour's climb, you emerge from the forest onto a more open, heather-covered world. Here the terrain flattens out a bit and you have another hour or so of ascent on more winding serpentines all the way to the top.

The path is clearly marked and signposted at all times, so there are no orientation problems. If you wish, you can extend the tour into a circular route - for example, you can descend over the Srenjski Preval and Jezerce mountain back towards Rudné Polje, which will offer you new views of the heart of the Triglav National Park.

View from the top and useful tips

The top of Viševnik is grassy and rocky, not a lot of space, but enough for a pleasant stop. In good weather, you'll be rewarded with a truly spectacular panorama - you can see the entire Pokljuka plateau and most of the highest peaks of the Julian Alps. The best views stop at the nearby mountains: the Little Draski Peak rises just in front of you to the west, followed by the Rjavina, the Triglav Mountains to the north-west, and the Great Draski Peak and Tosc alongside it. As there is no mountain hut or other facilities at the top of Viševnik, it is advisable to bring enough water and snacks.

There are several natural viewpoints along the way, where you can rest and refresh yourself with a view during the ascent or descent. Many hikers enjoy a well-deserved snack at the top of Viševnik while admiring the surroundings. Don't forget to wear suitable hiking shoes and clothing - even though Viševnik is an easy 2,000m, it is still a high mountain world with unpredictable weather.

Viševnik is therefore an excellent choice for those who want to experience the high mountain world of the Triglav National Park in a short hike. In just a few hours, you can reach the peak above 2000 metres and enjoy unique views, before returning to Bled the same day. Due to the popularity of the mountains, it is sometimes worth counting on a higher number of visitors, especially on sunny weekends.

Those who want more peace and quiet can make a similarly easy trip to another nearby peak (e.g. Debelo Peć or Brda in Pokljuka). But in any case, Viševnik remains one of the most beautiful viewpoints over the Bled basin - an experience that we highly recommend to everyone who visits Bled.
